Many people have asked me if I have been running my whole life. After I stop laughing I say, “uh, no”. I then let them know that I was that kid in gym class that “forgot my stuff” so I couldn’t change into the hideous uniform or worse the swimsuit! As a little girl I always was a big sweater and I was very self-conscious of that fact! I didn’t think it was very lady-like to sweat so I avoided anything that got me sweaty. Well, that and I was not very coordinated.
Cut to now…I started running in May 2009 after losing about 20 pounds. I began walking, but soon got bored so decided to try running instead in my clunky New Balance cross trainers. After that first 1/4 mile I decided I wanted to see if I could run a mile. That led to my first 5K and so on. It just goes to show that anyone can do this. You just have to set your mind on your goal, get a good training program and go!!!
I’ve included my race history here. And yeah, I still sweat…A LOT!
