St. Malachi Church 5 Miler

March 11, 2017

This was basically a last minute sign up with my gal pals, Marilyn and MaryAnn.  For whatever reason neither of us had ever run it before!  There was a 2 mile and a 5 mile option so we picked the fiver.  St. Malachi is a very active and vibrant parish in Cleveland and they do lots of service in the community.  The race proceeds all go to support their ministries.  This was a big race with a long history!  This was the 37th year of the race, and there were about 5000 runners in all!

The route is downtown, around Brown’s Stadium and other sites down by the lake.  It was a chilly morning with about 23 degrees and a pretty stiff wind!  We all decided that we were dressed very appropriately which is always good.

Here we are before we started:

We stayed together the whole way even though both of them could have run faster for sure.  It was nice to stay together, talk and get caught up.  There was only one major hill at the end.  Afterwards we met to have brunch at Heck’s diner and it was yummy.  We kept drinking hot tea forever and just chatting.  Such a great morning and early afternoon.  My time was 55:20:02 with a pace of 11:04/min/mile.  I’ll take it for the hill and the wind!

We will have to make this a tradition!  But next time we need to wear our green for the costume contest!!

Here is the shirt.  I actually think it is quite cute!
